Once again, my husband is off! As a consultant in the .Net industry, he’s been traveling a lot the last few years.
At first, it was kind of exciting! We’d just come out of a situation where we were living on less than $30,000 a year. Traveling for leisure was almost impossible on our budget, so watching him go to locations like Florida, Boston, and New York was a nice change from the ordinary.
I’ll never forget there was one night he called me and pulled me out of my book club to see him wave to me on the computer from Times Square! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous! ![:)]()
Then as time went on, the traveling got old. He spent months (sometimes a year) on end traveling back and forth, Monday through Friday, from Massachusetts and then Colorado. I made so many trips to the airport; it’s impossible to count.
Last year as we began to expect the Little Man, we decided it was time to reevaluate our situation. I didn’t want to feel like I was raising a baby on my own, and he didn’t want to miss out on our new family. Through lots of prayers and consideration, he made a job change. Although there’s still travel, it’s now far and few between.
Today was one of those days we had to say goodbye. Each time I drop him off it’s like the first time all over again. As often as we’ve done the airport goodbye, I still can’t help but get a little sad and immediately begin to miss him.
In the end, I’m thankful for his travels. It’s helped us to grow as a couple-absence does make the heart grow fonder. We’ve also been able to enjoy the perks of all-expenses paid corporate trips. He’s earned thousands of AA miles, been at Gold and Platinum status, and raked in the Starwood points. These benefits have allowed us to enjoy some amazing trips together, and I wouldn’t have done it any differently!
